K Kane Jewelry - FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I see what my monogram will look like before placing my order?

Two initial designs are drawn from a revolving portfolio that Katherine is in the process of completing. If you would like to see what your two-initial design will look like, feel free to email us at inquiries@k-kane.com.

Designs with more than 2 initials are done on a one-of-a-kind basis by Katherine with your input, and therefore cannot be created prior to placing your order. Katherine will work with you on your design until you are 100% happy (within the range of our signature design style).

Can you make Mini Signature Pendants, Ear Studs, Bracelets and Signature Necklaces with three initial designs?

Unfortunately, we are not able to fit three initial designs onto our smallest products.

How long does it take to make a custom piece?

To ensure the best possible quality, production of custom K Kane pieces takes five weeks. If you have a gift occasion before your piece will be ready, we often recommend that clients present a copy of the design and a photo of the piece they have purchased. We are happy to email you a copy of the design for this purpose.

Stocked items such as Mini Single Initial Pendants and Dog Cuffs ship within 5 business days.

What is Vermeil and how does it hold up over time?

The Federal Trade Commission defines "Vermeil" as Sterling Silver plated with a minimum of 2.5 microns of Gold. Due to our preference for superior quality, K Kane goes above and beyond this standard in our Vermeil products, using, on average, 3 microns of Gold.

While we work with best-in-class manufacturers to ensure the long-lasting quality of our Vermeil products, Vermeil products, like all precious metal jewelry, should be treated with care to maintain the most lustrous appearance. If, over time, you wish to have your jewelry re-plated, we will happily do so for you starting from $50.

Due to the Copper content in Rose Gold, Rose Gold Vermeil is softer than Yellow Gold Vermeil and will wear faster. Proper care is especially important to keep Rose Gold Vermeil looking its best.

How should I care for my jewelry?

Vermeil

To keep your Vermeil looking its best, clean it periodically with a liquid gold cleaner or Windex (the ammonia in Windex is great for gold!). Let it sit in the cleaner for 20 minutes, and rinse it thoroughly with hot water. Be sure to dry it well.

Daily exposure to water and heavy sweat is not recommended. Never let Vermeil sit in a wet or damp environment.

Rhodium Plated Silver

Rhodium plated silver can be cleaned with a solution of hot water and Dawn dish soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly after soaking!

Sterling Silver

Sterling Silver becomes tarnished due to oxidation, which occurs for a variety of reasons such as exposure to humidity in the air, interaction with the oil on your skin, and contact with chlorinated water. To prevent your jewelry from tarnishing, store it in a clean, dry, airtight place when you are not wearing it. Tarnish can easily be removed by gently cleaning your piece with a soft silver polishing cloth. You can also soak your sterling silver pieces in a mixture of hot water and Dawn dish soap. Rinse and dry thoroughly afterwards.

Can I return or exchange my piece?

Due to the highly customized nature of our pieces, all K Kane purchases are final sale.
